The Somatic Attachment Based Classroom Training
(SABC Training for Teachers)
The Somatic Attachment Based Classroom Training (SABC Training) is an online or in-person staff development training for schools, preschools, and daycare centers. Teachers learn to regulate their own nervous systems, attune to the students, and help their students learn to self regulate theirs. Teachers learn strategies to build attachment between the students and themselves, as well as among all students in the classroom. These strategies can effectively address the following challenging student behaviors:
Not listening
High distractibility
Disruptive Behavior, including calling out, running around the classroom, etc.
Aggression towards peers or the teacher/staff
Tantrums
Difficulty settling down enough to complete tasks
Difficulty playing with others
Frequent teariness
Low frustration tolerance
Sensory overwhelm
Withdrawal/shutting down
Destruction of items belonging to peers or the teacher
The attachment skills taught, including how to create “attachment bridges” and “attachment detours”, are especially helpful when used before and after limit setting to keep the student in positive relationship with the teachers/staff. This level of physiologically empathic, emotionally safe connection helps all students in the classroom feel seen, safe, cared about and ready to learn.
