Somatic Attachment

Help Your Child Feel Safe and Loved
Our children have our hearts! Yet sometimes, the deep love we hold for them doesn’t reach them.
Somatic Attachment Parent Therapy shows you how to connect with yourself first, then with your children, in the ways they need most to truly feel safe and loved. This attachment registers as a powerful resource in both their hearts and their nervous systems.
Lost Connection:
Are you afraid you’ve lost connection with your child due to social media/peer culture or video games?
Hard To Reach:
Is your child hard to reach, due to neurodiversity, past hurts or trauma?
Co-Parenting Conflicts:
Are differences in co-parenting hurting your relationship with your child?
Fighting/Aggression:
Are your children “constantly” fighting or being aggressive with each other or you?
Estrangement:
Has your teenage/young adult child “cut you off” emotionally, or gone “no contact”?
Take A Different Path:
Somatic Attachment Parent Therapy offers concrete, user friendly strategies to bring your child of any age closer to you. It teaches how to help your child feel safe and loved, in a way that registers in your child’s heart and nervous system, through somatic awareness, attuned attachment gestures and boundary setting. This creates an attachment security that can be an ongoing resource and source of resilience for your child. It also combines concrete co-regulation techniques with the specifically prescribed attachment building strategies. These skills are extremely helpful when creating family structure in relation to social media/gaming or web based peer culture.
Somatic Attachment Therapy is non-judgemental, non-shaming and non-punitive. Neither the child or the parent is made bad or wrong. The focus is on “getting yourself and your child back on track”, or into self regulated cooperative behavior. When repeated, this behavior creates a new mutual neural pathway that becomes an automatic go-to for both parent and child.

Approach And Methodology
Somatic Attachment Therapy for Parents incorporates effective parenting tools and a somatic self awareness that promotes responsive vs. reactive parenting. It’s based on principles of Attachment Psychology and Neuroscience, and integrates strategies from 3 parenting approaches and two specialized modalities.
Modality 1. - Internal Family Systems (IFS), or Parts Work, helps parents interact more lovingly with the different parts of themselves, heal psychic wounds, access their inner wisdom and connect more deeply with their children from a space of compassion and curiousity.
Modality 2. - Somatic Experiencing (SE) techniques are used to teach parents who have experienced trauma, how to ground themselves when activated and become more present with their child in the moment. It also teaches parents to utilize the power of mirror neurons to help their child begin to self regulate when the parent self regulates.
Twelve Step Program wisdom is also drawn upon.
Family Work is included in the Therapy. Children are invited to attend up to three family meetings in the role of helper, rather than client. Parents consistently report these meetings improve children's attitudes and behavioral responses to the positive change parents are implementing.

Testimonials
I have such an incredible relationship with my teenage girls. My husband does too. I would love to say it was all my own instincts but the truth is, it was Pam Perkins and her incredible workshops on Attachment Parenting. I found Pam when my girls were 8 and have followed her sage advice every day. I learned a dozen or so tools I can apply literally to every situation. How do you take a child's device away and have them hug you after? Pam can teach you that. What do you do during the Major Meltdown when you are late and walking out the door? Pam will teach you that too. How do you get your kids to talk to you? Ask Pam. This is the set of tools that every single parent needs. I cannot say enough about the attachment parenting workshops. If you are waiting for a sign this is it - do it.

Pam’s Parent Coaching transformed my relationship with my child.
She gives advice from her experience, her training, and her heart…
All the while it feels like she’s channeling this amazing Higher Power-Love energy, without calling it that. Now I know how to give my teenage son the space he needs and I’ve learned to listen to him with curiosity, love, and a sense of humor, rather than getting my feelings hurt. Pam also models grace in such a way that when I make a mistake, it’s so much easier to forgive myself. At one point I was afraid my son would leave and never come back. Now, I feel confident that he knows I love him, that I am here for him, and that he loves me. She has made a huge positive impact on both me and my son.

We were desperate. Our adult son was having confusion, agitation and had refused counseling…one day we had to call the police on him. Pam gave us insight, a language, and an approach with him that was different. What we were missing was the crucial framework to understand where he was coming from. Our son still has many challenges but he is willing to hear us now and sees us as allies in his care.
- Lora and Sean, Parents, retired Social Workers
We finally found a person that could bring together our very different ideas on co-parenting our son with ADHD. Even though the challenges in our home were still enormous, we were no longer hopeless because we finally understood the “hows” - how to work together, how our son was feeling and how to actually help him.

Pam is a highly skilled, compassionate and dedicated Parent Therapist and Trainer. I’ve consulted with her for many families I’ve served as a Child Therapist. Children whose parents are separated or divorced are often in a very vulnerable position, navigating two different homes and worlds. Pam provides coaching to help parents become empowered, respectful and willing to work with one another as they navigate their shared parenting of their children. The result is better well being for the parents and the child.

Pam’s Teacher Training helped me engage my high needs Special Ed Class with creativity, positivity and empathy. She had an uncanny ability to put herself in the place of my students - even though she had never met them!
